Oct 14, 2022 Dee Dee Bartels Pier
I had just dropped off some guests at the Dee Dee Bartels Park and was getting things put away on my boat when I heard the unmistakable sound of a drag ripping! When I looked up I could see that an angler, John, had a big fish on! I was thinking “shark”, but as many will tell you, I’ve been wrong! I turned on my video and got some good footage of John expertly playing the big fish. I was a little concerned that the barnacles on the pier might cut him off and when I saw a huge Redfish come to the surface I quickly realized that he would be unable to land it! I offered, and he accepted, to net the fish if he could get it close to the dock. He did all the work and brought it to the net – an oversized Redfish – videoed and released.
As you can see in the video, John said he was fishing a small finger mullet, on the bottom. I noticed that he was using about a 3/0 circle hook. The tide was about an hour before reaching high. Great catch here at Amelia Island, Florida.
