Amelia Island Fishing Report August 22, 2022
Last week if you wanted to catch a Redfish in the back water you almost had to settle for 14″-16″ Rat Reds. We were almost guaranteed to catch a good handful of those smaller fish, but I don’t think we had a single slot sized fish. We fished with live shrimp and a few finger mullet we were able to net – no mud minnows at the bait shops. I prefer mud minnows this time of year, on a 1/4 or 1/8 oz jig rather than shrimp. The bait stealers peck-peck- the shrimp off. The tides last week were low and coming in, usually my favorite but they produced no big fish. If you like battling Jack Crevalle, we caught a good bunch of them, too. Not a whole lot of Seatrout caught on those lower tides.
