Surf Fishing Fun on Labor Day

September 5, 2022-Brian Knicely and son Caleb:

How else would you celebrate a big Dawg win over Oregon than taking your son and favorite fishing partner surf fishing here at Amelia Island, Florida! After picking up some dead shrimp, but (freshly dead) at Amelia Island Bait and Tackle, Brian and his son Caleb headed up north of Amelia Island to access #5 and hit the beach on an outgoing tide. Evidently things heated up the last few hours before hitting low tide.

They were rigged up with 1oz pyramid sinkers, a #1 stainless steel crane barrel swivel with an 18″ Ande’s monofilament 20lb leader with a 1/0 Gamakatsu octopus circle hook. TIP ALERT!  According to Brian, the mullet are running the beach pretty heavy so when you see schools pass by make sure your baits are around the same distance off the beach. That morning they were approximately 30 yards off the beach.

You just can’t beat a pretty morning fishing the surf at Amelia Island, especially when your fishing with your son and coming off a big football win. Calem and Brian fended off some high flying Ladyfish and put a good handful of Whiting in their bucket to wrap up a great Labor Day weekend here at Amelia Island, Florida.
